New England Turf provides Big Rolls that are ideal for athletic fields, golf courses
and large open commercial/residential sites.
When our Big Roll layouts are done correctly, the sod installation can be a quicker and cheaper
alternative to the standard 6’ x 18” strips.
What is a Big Roll?
Standard – 4’ wide by 62.5’ long (250 sq. ft.)
Choice of 2 – 24 inch sections (1 seam) or 1 – 4 foot wide slab (no seams)
Custom lengths available with advance notice.
How are they installed?
Our experienced operators are available to unroll at your job site. A successful
installation is
dependent on the proper steps taken before the layout. First, you will need to supply four to five
people to assist our operators. This amount of labor is required for a few reasons. First, to pull the
sod into place using rakes, second, to assist our installer, and finally, to do all touch up work and
edging. You can install Big Rolls yourself using a landscape tractor or bobcat by connecting your
equipment to a three point hitch or laying device. For an additional deposit, New England Turf can
supply the necessary attachments.
What else should you know?
Big Rolls are not for every job site. They should not be used on job sites that have
tight areas with
obstructions, very steep slopes, or soft ground that may be damaged by our delivery equipment. Our
sales professionals are always available to meet with you at your job location to determine if Big
Rolls are a proper choice.
In order for a Big Roll job to be successful, many factors come into play. By planning ahead and
following our suggestions, we know you will save you time and money.
